This stream explores how AI agents can make intelligent decisions in complex environments and how AI can be used to analyse and generate artifacts in the domains of audio, music, game design, fiction writing or artworks. Students will explore a range of AI techniques employed in games, how games can be used for AI research and the philosophy and science behind AI systems that take on creative responsibilities.

This module is concerned with the design and implementation of effective human-machine interaction and the technology underpinning contemporary robotics. The course has a multidisciplinary artificial intelligence engineer degree content spanning psychology, human factors, computer science and robotics. This module runs throughout the academic year, starting in Autumn and ending in Spring.

In all the student spends 450 hours throughout the academic year, reporting to their academic tutor, and in the case of company projects, to a company mentor. This module is designed to provide an introduction to the statistical principles used in data science and their applications, and the use of practical programming packages for data analysis and visualisation. You will also study data analysis techniques, including causal inference, correlation, classification, regression, and clustering. You will study topics such as programming, machine learning, classification, clustering, AI in Healthcare and more, with modules that challenge you to combine and apply these topics on practical projects with career-launching outcomes. The skills and knowledge you will learn on this programme is shaped by the latest research in AI.

This course will use a mixture of examinations and coursework assignments to assess students. The placement year taught me how to interact with different people throughout the company at differing levels and how to approach conversations to get the maximum amount of information out of them. The MSc in Artificial Intelligence at St Andrews is an advanced research-driven programme focusing on logic, constraint programming, language processing, machine learning, and neural networks. It offers specialisation while allowing flexibility for other computer science areas. Students complete a substantial project and dissertation, enhancing their specialist knowledge and critical thinking.
