Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence with Foundation Year Undergraduate Courses
AI skills will also be integral for many ‘jobs of the future’ emerging across a diverse range of fields, including health, agriculture and the creative industries. This stream explores how AI agents can make intelligent decisions in complex environments and how AI can be used to analyse and generate artifacts in the domains of audio, music, game design, fiction writing or artworks. Students will explore a range of AI techniques employed in games, how games can be used for AI research and the philosophy and science behind AI systems that take on creative responsibilities.
This module is concerned with the design and implementation of effective human-machine interaction and the technology underpinning contemporary robotics. The course has a multidisciplinary artificial intelligence engineer degree content spanning psychology, human factors, computer science and robotics. This module runs throughout the academic year, starting in Autumn and ending in Spring.
Engineering
Decades of developments in the fields of computer science and technology have seen this move from science fiction to everyday reality. While it may not be true to say that machines can yet think for themselves, they can undertake many tasks that humans can, and often with greater speed and accuracy. A postgraduate loans system in the UK offers government-backed student loans of up to £11,836 for taught and research Masters courses in all subject areas. Criteria, eligibility, repayment and application information are available on the UK government website.
Akira Summers has been working in software and technological development since the year 2000. Starting off in web development and interactive media, she has held many development roles and spent several years working as an embedded game programmer, multimedia developer and learning technologist. Your learning culminates into an Individual Honours Project where you display your learning by developing a well-rounded, professionally developed, artificial intelligence driven software solution for a problem of modern relevance. It covers three stages of the software engineering life-cycle, requirements, design and implementation, but with a focal point on design and an emphasis on the design theme. The project provides you with an opportunity to be part of a thriving community of innovators that practices connected learning.

In all the student spends 450 hours throughout the academic year, reporting to their academic tutor, and in the case of company projects, to a company mentor. This module is designed to provide an introduction to the statistical principles used in data science and their applications, and the use of practical programming packages for data analysis and visualisation. You will also study data analysis techniques, including causal inference, correlation, classification, regression, and clustering. You will study topics such as programming, machine learning, classification, clustering, AI in Healthcare and more, with modules that challenge you to combine and apply these topics on practical projects with career-launching outcomes. The skills and knowledge you will learn on this programme is shaped by the latest research in AI.
This course will use a mixture of examinations and coursework assignments to assess students. The placement year taught me how to interact with different people throughout the company at differing levels and how to approach conversations to get the maximum amount of information out of them. All fees are in £ sterling, unless otherwise stated, and may be subject to revision. You must have an English language minimum score of IELTS 6.0 (with no component below 5.5).

2 EU students who are ROI nationals resident in ROI are eligible for NI tuition fees. International students wishing to apply to Queen’s University Belfast (and for whom English is not their first language), must be able to demonstrate their proficiency in English in order to benefit fully from their course of study or research. Non-EEA nationals must also satisfy UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) immigration requirements for English language for visa purposes. Through DMU Global, https://www.metadialog.com/ we offer an exciting mix of overseas, on-campus and online international experiences, including the opportunity to study or work abroad for up to a year. We welcome applications from mature students with non-standard qualifications and recognise all other equivalent and international qualifications. The tutors that believed in Tennessee and shared their industry experience took her from foundation degree to software engineer – now she’s helping the next generation.
Is AI a science or math?
As previously mentioned, AI is essentially a lot of math, consisting of algorithms, calculations, and other types of data.
Applicants who want to become a specialist in a particular area of computing and who want to take a first crucial training step towards that goal are the natural target for this course. The expectation of graduates is that this course enables them to have rewarding careers as specialist in an area of Computing. “AI is quite unique in having very deep theoretical foundations as well as tremendous industrial applications…the MSc in AI does a very good job at letting you experience both.” “The group project was an incredible opportunity to work as a team with an external start-up, and learn how to design and build efficient, production level code.”
The individual project simulates typical graduate workplace tasks that require in-depth knowledge and skills in a specific area of computer science and artificial intelligence. This will include a consideration of wider issues and the ability to manage activities and resources, and to generate, implement and report on solutions to meet objectives. The MSc in Artificial Intelligence at St Andrews is an advanced research-driven programme focusing on logic, constraint programming, language processing, machine learning, and neural networks. It offers specialisation while allowing flexibility for other computer science areas. Students complete a substantial project and dissertation, enhancing their specialist knowledge and critical thinking. Modules include practical AI design, foundational AI principles, object-oriented modelling, and a choice between constraint programming, language processing, and machine learning.

During your degree you’ll work on real projects for real clients as part of core and optional modules. This module provides a comprehensive introduction to computer vision
and practical skills for solving real-world applications. Machine learning and artificial intelligence are starting to play far bigger roles in our daily lives. They are used in digital assistants that respond to our voices, self-driving cars and adaptive education systems. We welcome applications from students who may not have formal/traditional entry criteria but who have relevant experience or the ability to pursue the course successfully. Read more about our English language requirements, including information about pathways that can help you gain entry on to our degree courses.
How you’ll spend your time
You have many options open to you including a job in industry, taking a more entrepreneurial route or going into AI research. Our support includes access to fantastic facilities, study tools and career consultants, plus practical help to access everything from funding to childcare. Where a course has additional expenses, we make every effort to highlight them. These may include optional field trips, materials (e.g. art, design, engineering), security checks such as DBS, uniforms, specialist clothing or professional memberships. For courses with a sandwich year, the fee for the placement year can be viewed on the undergraduate fees table.
